Members of the 6th Brigade, along with agents from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Taraba, have detained two individuals posing as police officers who were found carrying cannabis in two vehicles.
A statement released on Wednesday from Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations 6 Brigade, mentioned that the arrest took place in Wukari.
Based on reliable information, soldiers in collaboration with NDLEA officers stopped and arrested two impostor police officers at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area.
The individuals, wearing mobile police attire, were discovered in possession of two Toyota Hilux trucks carrying materials believed to be cannabis.
Initial inquiry found that none of the people inside are current police officers.
The vehicles containing cannabis were identified as having been loaded in Akure, Ondo State, and were en route to Adamawa State when they were stopped.
As per his statement, the people in the second Hilux left the vehicle and ran away when they saw the soldiers.
A total of 1,134 cannabis blocks were found in the two vehicles. Both the suspects and the seized items have been transferred to the NDLEA office in Wukari for additional inquiry and legal action.
The Commander of the 6th Brigade, Brig. Gen. Kingsley Uwa, praised the soldiers and NDLEA agents for their teamwork and perseverance, and reiterated the Brigade’s dedication to making Taraba a hostile environment for criminals.
Uwa called on members of the public to keep supplying accurate and timely information to security agencies to support current operations throughout the state.
