Sefwi Mrewa (WN/R), Oct. 01, GNA – Six people involved in unauthorized mining operations in Sefwi Mrewa, within the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, have been detained by the Western North Regional Police Command.
They include Emmanuel Addae, 20, Boateng Enoch, 26, Kwa Yurimpue, 26, Elvis Dery, 37, Nana Kwabena, 42, and Quansah Albert, who is 40 years old.
As per a police press release, the operation was carried out following a request from Koantwi Mining Company Limited to arrest people engaged in mining activities on their designated area.
The statement mentioned that a group of 20 police officers, under the leadership of the Regional Operations Commander, raided the mining location and came across approximately 20 people, with six individuals being taken into custody.
It mentioned that the six individuals accused were brought before the Sekondi High Court and sent to jail, with plans for their return on October 22, 2025.
The Regional Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to fighting illegal mining and cautioned that assaults on law enforcement officers would result in a quick reaction, according to the statement.
