Rwandan young athlete Rebecca Cyuzuzo departed for the United States on Monday night, September 29, having secured a fully funded scholarship to attend Ben Ford Christian School. Cyuzuzo, who is 18 years old, delivered an impressive performance with the Rwanda U18 team during the 2024 U-18 Africa Basketball Championship in Pretoria, South Africa. She also had an outstanding season in the women’s national basketball league, where she accumulated 183 points, 170 rebounds, 26 assists, 11 blocks, and 230 efficiency, leading The Hoops Rwanda to a fourth-place position. She was recognized as the Most Improved Player in the regular season of 2025. On senior international basketball duty, Cyuzuzo was part of the Rwandan squad that former coach Cheikh Sarr took to Côte d’Ivoire for the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket. Ferwaba technical director Moise Mutokambali stated that Cyuzuzo’s scholarship presents an opportunity for her to study and further develop her basketball skills in the US. “It demonstrates that we have talent in Rwanda. What needs to be done is to provide more youth with such opportunities to enhance their careers,” Mutokambali said.
