Oluwole Honored with Doctorate for Aviation Leadership

The head of Precision Aviation Handling Company Limited, Samuel Oluwole, has received an honorary doctorate from Pebble Hills University in Delaware, United States.

He was awarded the Doctor of Transport and Logistics Management (honoris causa) in acknowledgment of his many years of dedication to Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The recognition was formally awarded to Dr Oluwole on Saturday, September 27, at the fourth Strategic Summit on Good Governance hosted by the University of Lagos.

The conference, hosted by Pebble Hills University, centered around the topic ‘The Africa We Deserve: Leadership, Governance, and Collective Progress – The Case of Nigeria’.

Delivering the award in representation of the university’s board, Prof. Ezekiel Isidahomen mentioned that Oluwole and three others were chosen for their remarkable accomplishments in their individual areas.

“The recipients were chosen by the university. The institution carried out thorough screening and background investigations before identifying just four individuals who are worthy of their doctorate,” he stated.

Isidahomen commended the recipients, highlighting their display of honesty, skill, and steadfast dedication throughout their professional lives.

“Once more, the Senate and University Assembly extend their congratulations on this commendable success,” he added.

“This is the most prestigious recognition the university can offer to a person, and Dr Oluwole fully merits it,” Isidahomen said.

He urged the recipients to keep serving as examples and advancing developments in their areas, particularly across the African continent.

In his acceptance speech, Oluwole thanked Pebble Hills University for the honor: “I thank God that one can reach this point and am grateful to my family. Many achievements have been possible because of my family’s support.”

Considering the present condition of Nigeria’s aviation sector, Oluwole recognized its development over time but admitted that there was still progress needed, especially concerning domestic airline services.

Examining the Nigerian aviation sector 65 years following independence, Oluwole noted that the industry has made significant progress, but there is still much work to be done, particularly concerning domestic airline operators.

He highlighted that 40 years following the deregulation of the industry, flight delays and cancellations remained significant even after the collapse of the former national airline, Nigeria Airways.

“At this moment, we have not arrived there yet, but we hope to reach it,” he stated.

Oluwole, a graduate of King’s College, Lagos, obtained his Bachelor of Technology in Aeronautical Engineering & Design from Loughborough University of Technology in England, from 1972 to 1976. He began his career at Nigeria Airways in 1976 as a project development engineer, taking part in significant roles such as being part of the Hangar Project Committee and receiving consultancy training from Lufthansa Consulting.

Having spent two decades with Nigeria Airways, where he occupied several leadership roles in ground operations, Oluwole established Precision Aviation Handling Company Limited in 1996, a company he still oversees. He is also affiliated with professional organizations like the Royal Aeronautical Society, COREN, and the Aeronautical Society of Nigeria.

Other people recognized together with Oluwole were Andre Bresler, Managing Director of MDS Logistics; Ikechukwu Afakwu, Managing Director of A.B.I. Projects Concept Ltd; and Adeniji Olumide, Managing Director of AOJ Global Concept Ltd.
