Olam Agri Empowers 1,004 Women with Academy Graduation

Olam Agri, via its Crown Flour Angels Baking Academy, has trained 355 women, increasing the overall number of recipients to 1,004 within three years.

The company stated that the program demonstrates its dedication to continuous funding for women’s financial independence.

The academy, a key program within Olam Agri’s Seeds for the Future project, equips women with baking and business skills via a demanding four-week training that offers professional accreditation from the National Business and Technical Examination Board. Alumni acquire practical abilities and the self-assurance needed to establish lasting enterprises.

SFTF is Olam Agri’s key platform for developing value chains in Nigeria, creating impact by concentrating on: enhancing local wheat production, promoting education and skills training for youth, supporting women, advancing health and nutrition across the country, and lowering carbon emissions.

Praising Olam Agri’s remarkable dedication, Talatu Muazu, the Kano State Coordinator for NABTEB, stated, “Assisting women in gaining advanced baking skills and enrolling for professional certification through the same program reflects the Crown Flour Angels initiative’s dedication to quality. These initiatives will make a long-term difference in these young individuals’ lives, and I am certain they will accomplish significant achievements.”

The Commissioner from the Ministry of Commerce and Investment in Kano State, Shehu Sagagi, who served as the representative of the state’s Deputy Governor at the event, highlighted the significance of the program, stating, “What brings me more joy is that the graduates from the baking academy are women. Given the challenges faced by women in our society and the current economic conditions, our women need to be empowered to increase their earnings. I am pleased with what Olam Agri is accomplishing for these women. As a government, we must align ourselves with this outstanding initiative, as it complements and supports the state’s various empowerment programs.”

On behalf of the female graduates, Aisha Abdullahi expressed her gratitude to the company for supporting her and her peers. “My colleagues and I have enjoyed learning new aspects of baking. I never thought I would be able to bake like this now. The knowledge and experiences I gained at the academy have boosted my confidence in starting a baking business. I appreciate Olam Agri.”

Head of Marketing at Olam Agri, Bola Adeniji, emphasized the importance of the project: “We are convinced that genuine business success should be accompanied by a positive social influence. As part of our corporate social responsibility efforts, we are strongly dedicated to supporting the communities we work in, and one of our most effective programs is the Crown Flour Angels initiative.”

Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Olam Agri’s wheat-milling division, Nitin Mehta, stated, “The Crown Flour Angels initiative was launched to provide women with valuable skills that will help them engage more actively in the economy and assist their families. By offering training in baking and business development, we are helping them enter a promising market where their abilities and expertise are sure to bring benefits.”

The head of Olam Agri, Anil Nair, highlighted the role of the initiative in supporting the Federal Government’s economic development plans. He stated, “Olam Agri was established here in 1989. As a company that began in Nigeria, we hold a unique position for the country, as shown by our ongoing investments in enhancing the nation’s food systems, the welfare of its people, and achieving the main federal and state economic growth objectives. The Crown Flour Angels initiative aligns with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on empowering women. Congratulations to the women who have gained from this program.”
