Nigeria@65: NOA Urges Deeper Reflection on National Values and Civic Duty

As Nigeria celebrates its 65th Independence Day, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to go beyond formal festivities and adopt a fresh feeling of duty, loyalty, and values-based citizenship that embodies the principles on which the nation was established.

The head of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in his Independence Day message to Nigerians, urged people to take this opportunity to think seriously about the significance of being Nigerian — finding power in the country’s variety, endurance, and common goals of togetherness, tranquility, and development.

A statement released by the deputy director of communication and media, Paul Odenyi, conveyed his message.

Issa-Onilu emphasized that Nigeria’s 65th anniversary of independence offers citizens a new chance to commit themselves once more to the fundamental national principles of discipline, honesty, self-sufficiency, and fairness.

“The success of Nigeria’s future is not solely dependent on those in power, but on how each citizen demonstrates these principles in daily life,” he stated.

Emphasizing the ongoing initiatives of President Bola Tinubu aimed at revitalizing the economy, he called on Nigerians to view this year’s festivities as an invitation to strengthen their dedication to national development via civic duty, volunteering, and engaged community involvement.

He pointed out that genuine patriotism is shown not just through symbolic actions, but also through the everyday behavior of citizens, by maintaining national values, respecting national symbols, and following the law.

Issa-Onilu also urged educational institutions, religious organizations, traditional leaders, and civil society groups to take advantage of this moment to initiate discussions within communities about national identity, cultural conservation, and the significance of active participation in a democratic society.

He reemphasized the Agency’s dedication to continuous promotion of civic values, public education about government initiatives, and national solidarity, encouraging Nigerians, both within the country and abroad, to confidently reaffirm their loyalty to the nation and collaborate in shaping the Nigeria we envision.
