The Mowe/Arepo District Branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria has appointed Mr Rotimi Adebekun as its third District Chairman, committing to concentrate on enhancing skills, expanding membership, and creating a permanent secretariat.
Adebekun presented his strategic plan at his inauguration event, which took place recently in Ogun State, pledging to work towards an ambitious yet realistic approach for the progress of the community.
He stated that his administration will focus on enhancing capabilities to ensure members stay relevant in the current rapidly evolving tax landscape. “We need to stay at the forefront of knowledge. Our team will emphasize technical sessions, training, and online seminars to keep members well-prepared professionally,” he mentioned.
Regarding growth and development, Adebekun shared an ambitious strategy aimed at doubling the district’s membership by the conclusion of his term. He mentioned that this would be accomplished by promptly sharing institute programs, focusing on members’ well-being, and assisting those experiencing job loss or health issues.
He also pledged to enhance the digital platforms and virtual communication methods introduced by the founding chairman, while developing real advantages for members.
Speaking about the long-held dream of establishing a permanent office, Adebekun highlighted the significance of developing the secretariat. “From our initial days at Redemption Camp to ROA Plaza, Arepo, the necessity for a permanent secretariat has always been evident. Under my guidance, we will start this process. With everyone’s backing, we will make that first courageous move towards acquiring our Secretariat,” he pledged.
Additional areas of his leadership focus involve enhancing monthly general meetings to foster interaction and promote networking, as well as maintaining the multi-purpose cooperative society established by the founding chairman. He encouraged members to engage actively in the cooperative, which offers savings options for education, emergencies, and events like the 2026 Annual Tax Conference in Abuja.
At the event, the 17th President of CITN, Mr. Innocent Ohagwa, praised the district for its strength and development since it was established in May 2021 under the leadership of the former president, Dame Olajumoke Simplice.
Ohagwa mentioned that in September 2023, Mrs. Olayemi Ajiboye was appointed as the district’s second chairman, and he expressed his happiness at being able to personally oversee Adebekun’s installation.
“The Mowe/Arepo District, like all the other 49 districts within the CITN, is deeply valued. The true power of the CITN lies not in Lagos, Abuja, or even within our council meetings; it is found in our local chapters. You act as the bridge between the national organization and its more than 32,000 members located throughout Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and North America,” he stated.
The president of CITN mentioned that the council will evaluate districts according to their efforts in promoting the institute’s image, contributing to discussions on tax and fiscal policy, maintaining effective communication with stakeholders, offering robust capacity-building initiatives, and safeguarding the well-being of members.
Speaking directly to Adebekun, Ohagwa commended his history of hard work, clear vision, and outstanding performance. “It is upon this base of trust and demonstrated service that this leadership role is built. We are confident you possess everything needed to thrive and lead the Mowe/Arepo District to new levels of success,” he stated.
The president also recognized the efforts of previous chairmen and executives within the district, referring to them as having established a strong base that future leaders will use to build upon. He urged them to keep providing their advice and assistance.
To the people of the district, Ohagwa highlighted the significance of shared responsibility. “Leadership thrives when there are engaged and dedicated supporters. The effectiveness of this new executive relies on your common goal. I encourage each member to contribute their knowledge, time, and assets to make this period marked by real accomplishments and lasting influence,” he said.
He ended by expressing the congratulations of the CITN Council to Adebekun and his team, hoping for a productive term characterized by bravery, insight, and achievements that raise the profile of the district and the tax profession in Nigeria.
