The Ondo State Police Command announced on Tuesday that it had detained a man named Toheeb Ahmed, accused of murdering his grandmother in Ore, which is the capital of the Odigbo Local Government Area in the state.
As per the police, the 27-year-old individual, believed to be a carpenter, was caught in the Aiyegbami section of the neighborhood while moving around in a suspicious manner.
The motive behind the suspect’s alleged involvement in the crime remained unclear at the time this report was submitted.
However, a local resident who raised the alarm to draw attention to the neighbors after the incident stated, “He had been visiting the house since midnight last Thursday. This morning, he came to my shop to purchase something and said, ‘Mama is dead.’ At first, I felt sorry, but when he told me not to tell anyone, I became suspicious.”
Curious, I visited Mama’s room when he was gone and found she had been brutally killed. Upon his return, I saw him holding a cutlass and with a friend, likely to move the body. At that moment, I sounded the alarm.
The state Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, verified the event and mentioned that the suspect remains in their custody, with an inquiry having been initiated.
“It occurred indeed, and we have detained the suspect as an investigation has been initiated,” the PPRO said.
