A new poll conducted by the Independent Media Caucus for Development (IMCD) indicates that Dr. Bryan Acheampong might lead to a second round in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary elections if the vote were held immediately.
The report, delivered by Nana Abeiku Baiden, the Convener of the Independent Media Caucus for Development (IMCD), stated that 34,736 delegates came from all 16 regions of the nation.
As per the group’s assessment, the results suggest a very tight competition, with none of the top contenders likely to achieve the necessary 50% majority to claim victory in the initial round.
It mentioned, “Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, is leading with support from 10,901 delegates, which is 31%. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the former Minister for Food and Agriculture, comes next with 8,091 delegates, representing 23%. Kennedy Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central, received 5,569 votes, accounting for 16%. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, the former General Secretary, was supported by 390 delegates (1.1%).”
The remaining candidates include former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who received 128 votes, or 0.3%. A large number of delegates, 9,657, accounting for 28% of the total sample, are still undecided.
The IMCD stated that the significant number of undecided voters and the fairly balanced support among leading candidates suggest a probable second-round ballot unless there is a major change.
