Three alleged abductors were killed by officers from the Niger State Police Command, along with the seizure of two AK-47 weapons and 49 live bullets.
The spokesperson for the command, Wasiu Abiodun, announced on Monday in a statement that the police special unit clashed with kidnappers in a firefight, during which one victim was freed while other suspects fled into the forest having been injured by gunfire.
Continuing the Niger State Police Command’s efforts to clear areas believed to be hideouts for kidnappers, on September 12, 2025, around 6:30 am, the Special Task Team of the FID STS, along with vigilante members, conducted a clearance operation in the Kokolo forest through Kawo-Auna village, located in the Nasko Magama Local Government Area.
In the early morning hours, the group launched an attack on the forest, came across the criminals, and fought them in a shootout.
Thankfully, three of the suspected abductors were eliminated, while the rest fled into the woods with gunshot wounds, and a victim was saved.
“While searching the hideout, two AK-74 rifles containing 49 bullets were found. Additional investigations are being conducted to capture the gang members who have escaped,” Abiodun stated.
He called on members of the public, particularly those living in nearby villages, to report to security personnel any individuals seen with gunshot wounds.
“Members of the public, particularly nearby villages, are strongly advised to immediately notify the police and other security authorities if someone is discovered with gunshot wounds,” Abiodun stated.
