The Anambra State Police Command has detained four individuals accused of armed robbery and kidnapping, and seized one pump-action gun along with a black Toyota Camry vehicle bearing registration number SMK 835 FC at the time of their arrest.
On Tuesday, a spokesperson from the Anambra State Police, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, announced that members of the police command’s Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, detained the suspects on September 24 following reliable information.
Ikenga mentioned that the suspects, all men aged between 22 and 40, were recognized as Uchenna Aniegboka, Sunday Nwakalor, Chukwuebuka Aniegbunam, and Onyebuchi Udemba, and were taken into custody in Aguleri, within the Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.
The text stated, “Officers from the Anambra State Police Command, part of the Rapid Response Squad based in Awkuzu, conducted an operation early on September 24, 2025, following reliable information, raided Aguleri and detained four individuals suspected of being part of a criminal group reportedly engaged in armed robbery and kidnapping in the region.”
The individuals under suspicion, all men aged between 22 and 40, are: Uchenna Aniegboka, Sunday Nwakalor, Chukwuebuka Aniegbunam, and Onyebuchi Udemba.
During the operations, one pump-action rifle and one black Toyota Camry vehicle with registration number SMK 835 FC were recovered.
In this regard, as the suspects are still being questioned, Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reiterates the command’s dedication to making sure that criminals have nowhere to hide in the state. He also encouraged members of the public to keep supplying the police with prompt information to assist in the battle against crime.
He stated that the case will be referred to court once the investigations are completed.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, state police rescued a kidnapped individual in the Oba/Ojoto region within the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, seven hours after he was taken by armed individuals.
Our reporter learned that the victim was taken by armed criminals in Umuru Village, Nnobi, and a ransom of N10,000,000 was subsequently demanded.
The PPRO, SP Ikenga, mentioned on Tuesday that the Joint Command Tactical units, following an intelligence-driven operation, rescued the individual.
He mentioned that the victim was saved without injury, questioned, and has now been back with his family, noting that agents are currently investigating some leads in connection with the possible capture of the criminals who ran into the nearby bushes following a intense pursuit.
The statement mentioned, “Following a quick and well-coordinated effort by Joint Operatives from the Anambra State Police Command Tactical Team in the early hours of today, September 30, 2025, a kidnapped individual was safely recovered in the Oba/Ojoto area, seven hours after being taken by armed perpetrators at Umuru Village, Nnobi.”
The criminal groups had previously requested a ransom of N10m. As a result, the Joint Command Tactical teams were quickly sent to the site for an intense and thorough search, based on intelligence.
Amidst the growing efforts of the rescue mission, the abductors quickly let go of the victim and ran towards the nearby shrubs. The individual was saved without injury, questioned, and has now been back with his family.
Meanwhile, the agents are currently investigating certain leads in preparation for the potential capture of the escaping troublemakers.
Ikenga stated that the CP praised the officers for their quick response and assured residents of Anambra of the command’s strong dedication to combating crime, safeguarding lives, and maintaining public security.
