A student from Corona School in Gbagada, Lagos, named Precious Aroh, has gained global attention after being selected as a Best Finalist in the 18th iteration of the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest.
Out of more than 660,000 submissions from kids around the world, Precious received a $3,000 cash reward from Toyota Motor Corporation for her imaginative painting.
The honor was officially handed out in Lagos this past weekend by the Managing Director of Toyota Nigeria Limited, Kunle Ade-Ojo, who commended the young artist’s innovation and international success.
The Toyota Dream Car Art Competition is an international Corporate Social Responsibility program launched by Toyota Motor Corporation, aimed at inspiring kids to imagine upcoming transportation ideas while emphasizing environmental responsibility, innovation, and societal consciousness.
The winning submission by Precious, titled ‘Virus Vacuum’, envisions a future vehicle that actively safeguards the environment and human well-being through air purification.
Precious stated, “My dream car is named Virus Vacuum, a vehicle designed for clean air. It features unique suction vents that extract viruses from the atmosphere. Inside the car, these viruses are eliminated, resulting in purified, secure air. It’s a vehicle that not only moves people but also contributes to healing our environment.”
Mr. Ade-Ojo praised the creativity and compassion inherent in her idea, stating, “Precious’s remarkable talent and perspective have once again brought Nigeria into the international spotlight. Her concept of a vehicle that removes viruses is not only original but also highly pertinent in a world affected by the pandemic.”
Mr. Ade-Ojo mentioned that this success further enhances the reputation of Nigerian excellence in the Toyota Dream Car Contest, noting that Precious is from the same university as Oluwademilade David Odumuboni, the first Nigerian to secure a Global Grand Prize in the competition two years ago.
This highlights the encouraging and motivating atmosphere at Corona School. It also demonstrates the impact of early education in developing future global leaders.
Precious intends to utilize her $3,000 award to buy books, art supplies, and digital educational resources in order to enhance her artistic skills.
In addition to the cash award, she was presented with a special shield by Toyota Motor Corporation, a trophy, and a certificate from Toyota Nigeria Limited.
Mr. Ade-Ojo also gave special recognition to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aroh, as well as her art instructor for their commitment and assistance.
