Kumasi, October 01 GNA – A feeling of fear and urgency remains strong among the residents of Bronikrom, near Abrepo in the Kumasi area, after a seven-year-old boy went missing during a flood.

A severe rainstorm hit the neighborhood on Saturday, September 28, 2025, leading to flooding.

The boy, known as Nana Kwame, was reportedly carried away by the sudden floodwaters of the Owabi River during the heavy rain, yet his body remains missing even after extensive search efforts and the conduct of traditional ceremonies by the locals.

Mr. Emmanuel Nyarko, a witness, informed the Ghana News Agency that the boy was playing with his friends in the rain on that tragic day.

He mentioned that while the boy tried to get his slippers, which were being moved by the rain into a drain, he was carried away by the strong floodwaters into the nearby Owabi river.

Mr. Nyarko mentioned that the local representative, after being informed of the incident, reported it to the police and gathered some individuals to search for the boy in the river and the surrounding forest, but without success.

He mentioned that following the failed effort to recover the boy, the community’s leaders and elders conducted ceremonies for the river deities, yet the boy’s body remained unfound five days after the event.

A ritualistic leader instructed the crowd to look for the boy beneath a palm tree, yet they were unable to locate the child or his remains.

Mr. Nyarko mentioned that the event has caused profound sorrow among the boy’s parents and the whole community.

He mentioned that the elders were carrying on with the rituals until the body was discovered.
